Technology Absorption in Mexican Corporations. Phase I: Decision Making

To all my IT Colleagues:

This is the first post of four that I'll use to try to cover the item "Technology Absorption in Mexican Corporations" for the Trends and Evolution of IT Technologies subject from my IT Master degree.

Now, getting down to work. If you are an employee of a mexican company, probably you already had the oportunity to participate in at least one IT project between your company and a transnational corporation; if you don't, probably your company it's about to begin to work on IT projects with at least one mexican company.
The fact is that IT in Mexico is growing at the same pace as the world's most advanced countries, however, are mexican companies ready to adopt these new technologies?, and, not just for adoption, but also for absorption?

The technology absorption is a learning process and a rational utilization of any technological resource that companies have.

This absorption process has four phases, and we'll discuss each one during each post that it'll make up this blog.

The first phase of technology absorption is the decision making to invest and start a project.
  • What is your perspective about this decision making process of the mexican companies that you have worked with or within when an IT project is about to begin?
  • What are the principal obstacles that mexican IT managers face at the moment of this decision?
  • What is the biggest difference on the decision making process between the mexican companies and other companies in the world according to your own expirence and culture?
We'll really apreciate your contributions to this blog, we are trying that colaboration grows up between IT profesionals, and much more, between mexican IT profesionals. Thanks for share.

  1. When starting to work with a new technology the enterprises often have to go after knowledge in other pairs or countries, just to discover that the only way to learn it is trying to do for their own, since those who have that knowledge don't document it, don't have KM or simply registers from previous projects. All is tacit and only exists inside employee heads. Worse than this, that's even commom in enterprises with CMMI 5 around the world!
